SOL-MED II (2003 – 2004) Widening the use of European Solar Thermal Technologies in Mediterranean Countries following the Successful Model of Greece. PART B: Italy, France, Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey Expansion of the project activities to other countries, including France and Italy, was originally foreseen in the proposal of SOL-MED I. The European Commission favourably evaluated the Consortium’s proposal and supported the idea to strengthen the local markets and to further promote the use of solar energy in a number of countries with high solar potential. Project SOL-MED I was followed with the formulation of SOL-MED II, a project aiming to promote the utilisation of solar energy in 5 other European and Balkan countries (France, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey). Part B (SOL-MED II) builds on the experience, the information resources and the infrastructure developed under SOL-MED I which allows the Consortium to maximise its performance and produce better results. SOL-MED II is the subsequent continuation for the dissemination of information throughout Europe with regard to the benefits of solar energy implementation. The main objectives of SOL-MED II have remained unchanged, i.e. dissemination of information and of tangible results in the field of solar technology based on the experience and the successful model of implementation in Greece and Cyprus. These are additionally enhanced by the results achieved and the experience gained during Part A in Spain and Portugal. As outlined in the description of the SOL-MED II project, France, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey are now becoming the focal points for the development of new markets in solar energy technology. EXERGIA S.A. in association with AETS (France), ASSOLTHERM (Italy), ASTER (Italy), GSIA (Greece), MERKAT (Turkey), SEC (Bulgaria) and TRAPEC (Romania) is responsible for the implementation of the SOL-MED II project. SOL-MED II is co-financed by the Directorate – General for Energy and Transport (DG TREN) of the European Commission, in the framework of the Energie Programme.
